Packages and volumes

Both fields are in the Advanced tab of the Python Code component.

Packages: what your code needs

Write in Packages the Python packages your code uses, one per line, as in a requirements file:

pandas
openpyxl==3.1.5
beautifulsoup4
  • They install themselves before your code runs. The first time takes a few extra seconds; then they are kept and the next runs start without waiting.
  • Lines starting with # are ignored. Do not separate packages with commas.
  • If a package cannot be installed, the run fails and the error says which one.
  • Python Version picks the language version: 3.13 by default.

If you pin a version, do it from the first time you add the package: once it is installed, changing only its version in the list does not install it again.

Volume Directory: files that are kept

Everything your code saves is deleted when the run ends, except what it saves in its volume: a folder of your storage that is kept from one run to the next.

  1. Write the volume name in Volume Directory, for example brands. If it does not exist, it is created on the first run.
  2. In the code, the volume variable is the path of that folder:
import pandas as pd
brands = pd.read_csv(f"{volume}/brands.csv") # read a file from the volume
brands.to_csv(f"{volume}/result.csv", index=False) # save another one, which is kept
  • Volumes belong to your account, not to the flow: two flows using the same name share the folder.
  • You can use subfolders, for example f"{volume}/2026/october.csv".
  • To give your code files, upload them from Storage with the Files for Python Code wizard, which then tells you what to write in the component. See Upload resources.
  • What your code saves in the volume can be seen and downloaded in the storage explorer, under Python Code volumes. See Explore and download.

The storage video follows this whole journey: it uploads a list, a flow reads it and saves its result, and the result is downloaded.
