PayPal MCP

PayPal MCP connects your flow to PayPal’s official MCP server. It gives you the tools that server publishes to work with your PayPal account, for example with orders, invoices or payments.

You pick a tool in the Tool field and can use it in two ways: as a step in the flow, filling in its data yourself, or as a tool for an agent, which decides when to use it.

When to use it

  • You want a customer service agent to check the status of a PayPal order or payment.
  • You need to create PayPal invoices from the data a flow collects.
  • You want to test a payment automation in PayPal’s test environment before using it with real money.

Configuration

You need a PayPal API credential. See Credentials.

FieldWhat it does
Credential (required)Your PayPal API credential. Its client ID and secret are exchanged for an access token automatically.
API KeyAn access token for your PayPal account. Only needed if you do not use a credential; when filled in, it is used instead of the credential.
Environment (required)The PayPal environment: sandbox (testing, no real money) or live (your real account). Default: sandbox. Changing it reloads the Tool list.
Tool (required)The PayPal server tool you want to use. The list comes from the server itself. When you pick one, the data that tool needs appears below.

When the component is used as an agent tool, the agent can fill in that data for you. More on this in Tools.

Output

  • Data: the text returned by the chosen tool.
  • Tool: the tool ready for an agent. Connect it to the agent’s Tools input.

Example

An online shop wants its assistant to report the status of orders paid with PayPal.

  1. Add PayPal MCP and pick the PayPal API credential.
  2. Leave Environment on sandbox while you test.
  3. In Tool, pick the tool for checking orders and let the agent fill in the order number.
  4. Connect the Tool output to the agent’s Tools input.
  5. Once everything works, switch Environment to live with your real account’s details.

Good practices

  • Always test in sandbox before moving to live: PayPal tools can move real money.
  • If you want the agent to use several PayPal tools, add one component per tool.
