Google Drive Writer

Google Drive Writer saves the content it receives from the flow to a folder in your Google Drive. It can be a text, which is saved as a text file, or a document already created by another component: a Word file like the one from Docx Writer, an Excel file, or a PDF like the one from Pdf Writer.

If the folder already has a file with the same name, it is deleted and replaced with the new one.

When to use it

  • Saving to Drive the PDF quotes the flow produces.
  • Leaving meeting minutes in Word in a shared folder.
  • Archiving in Drive the text of a report written by an agent.

Configuration

This component needs the credential of the Google Drive service. In the Credential field (required), pick one with Choose an option or create one with Add new credential. See Credentials.

FieldWhat it does
Credential (required)The credential of your Google Drive account.
Select folder to uploadThe Google Drive folder where the file is saved. Pick it in the selector; left empty, the file is saved in the root of your Drive.
File Name (required)The file name, for example client-quote.pdf.
File contentThe content to save. Connect a text or the file another component produces (Pdf Writer, Docx Writer, Xls Writer…): it is uploaded with its own type. If you connect a list, one file is uploaded for each item, all with the same name.

Output

Path to File returns, for each uploaded file, its name, its Google Drive identifier, its type and the folder where it was saved.

Example

A home renovation company saves every quote it sends in Drive:

  1. An agent writes the quote.
  2. Pdf Writer turns it into a PDF.
  3. Google Drive Writer receives the PDF in File content, with File Name garcia-quote.pdf and the Quotes folder picked in Select folder to upload.
  4. The PDF is stored in Drive, ready to share with the team.

Good practices

  • Use different names, for example with the client’s name or the date, so earlier files are not replaced.
  • Include the right extension in File Name (.txt, .docx, .xlsx or .pdf) so the file opens without problems.
  • For new flows, Drive File Manager offers more actions on your Drive files.
