Storage Files

Storage Files works with the files in your NappAI storage: it lists the files in a folder, fetches a file (the file itself, its text or just its details), saves new files, replaces the content of an existing one, renames, moves, copies or deletes it, or creates a link to download it.

It acts on the storage of the person who runs the flow, the same one you see on the Storage page, so it needs no credential. Whatever a flow saves here shows up on that page right away, and whatever you upload there can be used by the flow.

When to use it

  • You want to keep the attachments that arrive by email, or the reports a flow produces, without depending on an external cloud.
  • An AI agent has to read the text of a document you saved in your storage.
  • You want to pass a file from your storage to another component, for example to attach it to an email or upload it to OneDrive.
  • You need to send someone a download link that expires.

How it works

  • Paths. A path that names no section, such as reports/q3.pdf, is inside the Files section (the files folder): it is the same as files/reports/q3.pdf. If you leave the folder empty, the Files section itself is used. Full paths into other sections also work, such as pycode_data/sales/data.csv or <flow-id>/notes.txt, which is what the picker returns. See Files.
  • What a flow can change. A flow can read your whole storage, but it can only change the Files section, each flow’s file folders and the Python Code volumes. Vector databases, SQLite databases, trained models and skills are read-only to a flow: you can read them or copy them to another section, but not change, move or delete them. The top folder of each section cannot be moved or deleted either.

Configuration

FieldWhat it does
Operation (required)What the component does. See Operations. Defaults to List Files.
Selection ModeHow you point to files and folders: By Selector (you pick them in your storage) or By Path (you type their path). Defaults to By Selector.
Folder / Folder PathThe folder in your storage, for example reports/2026. Empty means the Files section. In List Files and Upload Files.
File / File PathThe file, for example reports/2026/sales.xlsx. In Get File, Update File, Rename File, Move File, Copy File, Delete File and Create Download Link.
Destination Folder / Destination PathThe folder the file goes to, for example archive/2026. In Move File and Copy File.
File to SaveThe files to save: connect here the output of another component that delivers files, such as Gmail, Google Drive, OneDrive or a document writer. In Upload Files and Update File.
Text or File URLWhen nothing is connected: the text you want to save as a file, or the web address of a file to save. In Upload Files and Update File.
File NameThe name of the saved file, with its extension. Empty keeps the original name. It can include subfolders, for example 2026/october/summary.txt. Only in Upload Files.
New NameThe new name of the file, with its extension. Required in Rename File; in Move File and Copy File, empty keeps the name.
If the File ExistsWhat to do if a file with that name is already at the destination: Keep both (the new one is saved with a number, for example report (1).pdf), Overwrite (it replaces the old one) or Fail (the component stops with an error). Defaults to Keep both. In Upload Files, Move File and Copy File.
ContentWhat Get File delivers: File (the file itself, to pass to the next component, for example as a Gmail attachment or to upload it to OneDrive), Text (the text it contains, for example from a PDF or a Word document) or Details only (just its name, size and date). Defaults to File.
Include SubfoldersAlso lists the files inside subfolders. Off by default. Only in List Files.
File TypeWhich files are listed: all, document, pdf, spreadsheet, presentation, image, audio, video, archive or code. Defaults to all. Only in List Files.
Max ResultsThe most files to list, between 1 and 1000. Defaults to 100. Only in List Files.
Link Valid For (Hours)How many hours the link works, between 1 and 168 (one week). Defaults to 24. Only in Create Download Link.

With By Selector you see the Folder, File and Destination Folder fields; with By Path, Folder Path, File Path and Destination Path.

Operations

OperationWhat it does
List FilesLists the files in a folder, with their name, path, size, type and modification date.
Get FileFetches a file: the file itself, its text or just its details, depending on Content. To load the file or its text, it can be at most 50 MB; for a bigger file, use Create Download Link.
Upload FilesSaves one or more files in the given folder.
Update FileReplaces the content of an existing file, keeping its name and folder.
Rename FileChanges a file’s name without moving it.
Move FileMoves a file to another folder and, if you want, renames it.
Copy FileCopies a file to another folder. It also lets you take a copy out of a read-only section, such as a SQLite database, into the Files section.
Delete FileDeletes a file. Folders are deleted with Storage Folders.
Create Download LinkCreates a download link for the file that expires after Link Valid For (Hours).

Output

The Data output returns one item for each file listed, saved or fetched, with its name (name), its path (path), its size in bytes (size), its extension, its file type and its modification date (modified).

  • Get File with File delivers the file itself, ready for the next component; with Text, it adds the text in text.
  • Move File and Copy File also give the source path in source.
  • Delete File returns the name and path of the deleted file.
  • Create Download Link returns the link (url), the file name and the date it expires (expires_at).

As an agent tool

The component can be connected to an Agent as a tool, so the agent decides when to list, read or save files. See Tool Mode. In that case:

  • The path fields (Folder Path, File Path, Destination Path) are always used, and the agent writes them.
  • Get File with File returns a link to the file instead of its content, so the conversation is not filled with data the agent cannot read. If the agent needs what the file says, use Text.
  • To save, the agent writes in Text or File URL the text, the web address of a file, or a file from the conversation.

Example

An accounting firm wants to keep the invoices it receives by email in its storage, sorted by month.

  1. An email component delivers the attachments of each message received.
  2. Add Storage Files with the Upload Files operation.
  3. In Selection Mode choose By Path and type invoices/2026-10 in Folder Path.
  4. Connect the attachments to File to Save and leave If the File Exists on Keep both, so two invoices with the same name are both kept.
  5. The invoices appear on the Storage page, inside Files, in invoices/2026-10.

To send an invoice to a client later, another flow uses Get File with Content set to File and connects its output to the attachments of Gmail Message.

Tips

  • With Batch Mode the component works through a whole list: for example, connect the result of Storage Search and use Get File with File Path Mapped to path to fetch every file found. See Batch Mode.
  • Use Details only when you only need to know whether a file exists, its size or its date: it does not load the file.
  • For files over 50 MB, create a link with Create Download Link instead of loading them into the flow.
  • Delete File and Overwrite do not ask for confirmation. If an agent uses the component as a tool, give it only the operations it needs.

Security

  • Only your storage. The component works with the storage of whoever runs the flow and cannot leave it, with the same rules as the Storage page.
  • What other components use is protected. Neither a flow nor an agent can change or delete vector databases, SQLite databases, trained models or skills.
  • Whole files only. Each file is written aside and appears in one go, so no flow ever reads a half-saved file.
  • Links that expire. Anyone holding a Create Download Link link can download that file, and only that file, until it expires. Send it only to whoever should get it and pick the shortest time that works for you.
